2017 Lucca, Italy 10/04

I realize I have been remiss in daily postings. I’m new at this, so there is a bit of a learning curve. I am finding that a daily schedule that begins at breakfast and last till bedtime makes it difficult to find time to just sit and write. I’m not complaining, mind you, as I am having way too much fun for that!

I (once again) did not know what to really expect from our 4 full days in Lucca, Italy. And once again, I am very pleasantly surprised to find it to be such a wonderful Italian town!

We didn’t really get a chance to experience local Italian town life during our 2009 visit, so this has been a treat. While Lucca is a living, working, Italian town, it is also a microcosm of Italian history, as are so many Italian hilltowns.

The city has an ancient wall that has been converted into a circular park surrounding the town. We did a city walking tour when we arrived and our tour guide told us that when she was young (a while ago), she leanred how to drive on the wall, since it was a semicircle and only one lane, thus easy to drive. Today it is a walk/bike trail surrounding the city. There are benches and picnic tables along the way, so finding a place to just sit and chill is easy. Today we bought some panini sandwiches, a very small bottle of wine, and had a picnic lunch on the wall. Very nice!
